FEAR GOD

Fear can hinder your faith. One time Jesus was in a boat with His disciples and a storm came up and they were afraid they might drown and woke Jesus. After Jesus made the storm stop, He said to them, "WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?" We need to have faith in God in all situations and only fear God. Jesus teaches us "DON'T BE AFRAID OF THOSE WHO CAN KILL ONLY YOUR BODIES--BUT CAN'T TOUCH YOUR SOULS! FEAR ONLY GOD WHO CAN DESTROY BOTH SOUL AND BODY IN HELL". To fear God is the intelligent thing to do. When Jesus teaches that to follow Him one needs to deny himself or "MUST PUT ASIDE HIS OWN DESIRES AND CONVENIENCES", this includes having fear of people or negative situations in our life. If God tells you to do something and you are certain you heard God correctly then do it without concern for yourself or any fears. Sometimes people are fearful or embarrassed or ashamed of what Jesus says, when around non-believers or around believers of popular manmade doctrines or followers of a false god. Jesus says in those cases He "WILL BE ASHAMED OF" that person when He returns. We do not want to allow peer pressure or fear of what others may think or do to cause us to follow teachings that conflict with what Jesus teaches. If a person wants to get a divorce but "FEAR" of God who said "I HATE DIVORCE" makes them work on their marriage, it is a good. If a person desires to sin and fear of God stops them from sinning, praise God. Solomon who was given wisdom from God wrote, "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge". Some people prefer words like respect or reverence but the word fear communicates the best understanding. In the early church there was a follower of Jesus named Ananias who committed what most would consider a minor sin of lying and yet when confronted by Peter with his sin he "fell down dead". The people present understood that God had punished him by his death. Do not be stupid like Ananias, fear God. God punishes people today and they fall down dead while society may suggest a medical explanation as if God cannot use natural means or medical explainable means for punishment. Jesus reminds us, "YOU SHALL NOT TEMPT YAHVEH YOUR GOD". This can be a good opportunity to examine your public life and your private life and turn away from all sin.1

Understanding the Teaching: What I share in the teaching is what I believe God wants me to share. All the direct quotes from God are highlighted in royal purple. Of course the words of Jesus are in red. Rather than follow some made up doctrine, remember that Jesus said that every thing He said (Jn 12:49) and everything He did (Jn 14:31) comes from God. All teachings and all opinions should be supported by what we learn from God or Jesus (see the scripture referred to in the footnote).

MARRIAGE WORKSHOP MOMENT

In our marriages, the first thing to go is being a friend, friendship type activities and taking time to talk like friends. A friend listens without being defensive, respects their friend's opinion and doesn't offer an unwanted advice, unless asked. With a friend you feel safe to open up and often you develop mutual interests. It is important to set apart a time of friendship time together. It is good to protect that time together by eliminating issues and possible problems by having your weekly couples meeting in advance using the Speaker Listener Technique.

The Better Half "When your partner won't support your efforts to make your marriage better" Without your spouse's support to improve your marriage, you can still pray daily for God's will to be done in each of your lives and your marriage ("all things are possible with God", Mark 10:27 NIV).Even without you spouse's help you can be a good friend. Like doing friendship type activities and taking time to talk like friends. A friend listens without being defensive, respects their friend's opinion and doesn't offer an unwanted advice, unless asked. With a friend you feel safe to open up and often you develop mutual interests. When a spouse calls "time out", it is an opportunity for a couple to calm down before continuing the conversation at a later time (anywhere from an hour to no later than the next day) using the Speaker Listener Technique. Initially after calling time out it is an opportunity to take authority over the enemy and pray for the marriage. Example: "In the name of Jesus I command you demons to shut up and leave our marriage and not return" "Thank you God for helping our marriage be in Your will and guiding us in our relationship, in Jesus name, amen." When a spouse will not cooperate, you can still take authority over the enemy and pray for your marriage.
